Etching on metal is an exciting technique that makes for an interesting addition to your beading projects. It is a way to make original very personalized gifts for others and yourself. You'll find it inexpensive, unique, and habit-forming. A kit fee of $10 is payable to the teacher on the day of class.

 

Fine Metal Advanced Cuff with Bezel Set Stones – Barbara Kennedy – $45

This class offers you the opportunity to utilize your metal skills while constructing a cuff you will certainly want to show off. Enhance your cuff with wire designs or leave it simple to show off the bezeled stones. A materials fee of $55 is payable to the teacher on the day of class. This covers all metal and stones used in your cuff. The teacher will have a variety of stones to choose from. Prerequisites: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro, Forging Intro, and Fine Metal Bezeled Pendant.

 

Fine Metal Bails – Barbara Kennedy – $25
Saturday October 11th 3:00PM-5:00PM

Transform a flat piece of sheet metal into a 3-dimensional pinch bail, and use it to transform your drilled cabochon or pendant into a wearable piece of jewelry. Discuss the possibilities of embellishing and texturing in class. A $10 material fee is payable to the teacher on the day of class.

 

Fine Metal Bezeled Pendant – Barbara Kennedy – $25
Sunday November 2nd 1:30PM-3:30PM

Join Barbara in this three step soldering process to create a sterling silver bezeled cabochon. You will fabricate the bezel, set the cabochon, and burnish your piece. Leave class with a bezeled cabochon. A materials fee of $20, which includes the cabochon, is payable to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisite: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro.

 

Fine Metal Cuff Intro – Barbara Kennedy – $20
Saturday December 13th 3:00PM-5:00PM

Design and create a wide sterling silver cuff bracelet. Explore embellishing with stones and/or beads. Learn to drill holes into metal. A $30 materials fee is payable to the teacher on the day of class.

 

Fine Metal Forged Bangle Project – Barbara Kennedy - $25
Saturday October 25th 2:30PM-4:30PM

Take your forging skills to another level. Barbara will take you through the process of soldered and forged bangle. You have three styles to chose from, Triangle, Circle, or Square. Eat your Wheaties before class! Prerequisite: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Forging Intro

 

Fine Metal Forged Earrings Project – Barbara Kennedy - $25
Sunday October 5th 1:00PM-3:00PM

You will use the confidence and skills you gained from the Intro to Fine Metal Forging class as Barbara guides you through the process of forging either a pair of classic hoop earrings or a more contemporary pair of drop earrings. The choice is up to you. A materials fee of $30 is payable to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisite: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Fine Metal Forging Intro.

 

Fine Metal Forged Propeller Project – Barbara Kennedy - $45
Saturday October 18th 2:00PM-5:00PM

Using large gauge wire, you will forge propeller-shaped links at right angles, drill and join them with soldered jump rings. Finish your bracelet with your own handmade clasp. A materials fee of $20 is payable to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisites: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Forging Intro.

Do you want to take your Fine Metal skills to another level? Barbara is going to teach us all about forging fine metal. This class is a prerequisite for Barbara’s Forged Bracelet Class. A $10 materials fee is payable to the teacher on the day of class.

 

Fine Metal Hammered Chain Bracelet Project – Barbara Kennedy – $35

Barbara will help you refine you soldering skills while creating this textured linked bracelet. A materials fee of $22 is payable to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisite: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Forging Intro.

 

Fine Metal Hard Soldered Cones – Barbara Kennedy – $25
Saturday November 1st 3:00PM-5:00PM

Cones are a great way to complete a beaded creation. In this class you will texture, fold, form, and solder sterling silver sheet metal into a pair of cones. A materials fee of $20 is due to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisites: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Sheet Metal Earrings Project.

Fine Metal Hollow Beads – Barbara Kennedy – $25
Saturday November 22nd 10:30PM-12:30PM

In this class you will learn to make a hollow form saucer bead approximately one inch wide. This bead will be beautiful left plain and polished or with added surface texture. Leave class with a bead ready to hang on a chain or ribbon. A materials fee of $20 is payable to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisites: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Sheet Metal Earrings Project.

 

Fine Metal Large Linked Hammered Chain Necklace Project – Barbara Kennedy – $40
Sunday November 9th 12:00PM-4:00PM

Learn how to make your own linked chain. Big links, little links, round links, oval links, the possibilities are endless. A materials fee of $40 is due to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisite: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Forging Intro.

 

Fine Metal Latch Cabochon Bracelet – Barbara Kennedy - $55
Saturday November 15th 11:00AM-4:00PM

You will fabricate a bracelet from large gauge silver wire. You will also create a bezel and set a cabochon. Join the two together utilizing the bezeled cabochon as a clasp. A materials fee of $40, which includes cabochon, is payable to the teacher on the day of class. Prerequisites: Fine Metal Hard Soldering Intro and Fine Metal Bezeled Pendant.

Q: Why is the Statue of Liberty green?
A: Patina!
A patina is the surface film of color that can sometimes be seen on metal, be it the beautiful verdigris of Lady Liberty or the deep red rust on an old Chevy. Though a patina is usually associated with age and weathering, interesting colors can be achieved relatively quickly using the right chemicals. In this class you will learn how to use store-bought patina preparations including Liver of Sulfar. All materials included. No metalsmithing experience necessary.

Choose from an assortment of fused glass cabochons available from our local glass artist, Lisa Camfield (or bring a piece you’ve made in the Fused Glass Cabochon Workshop). Learn to build a beaded bezel frame and hanger to wear on a chain throughout the season. This class is open to beginners, however experience with Peyote stitch is helpful.

Badge holders, lariats, and eye glass holders! Barbara will teach you the basic construction of these functional and often necessary items. All three of these pieces would make a great gift for your teckie or teacher.

In this class beginning students will learn the basics of glass fusing, cutting and grinding glass pieces, design techniques, kiln operation and firing procedures, and how to shop for equipment and material and set up your studio. Returning students can explore and refine their skills as they experiment with new techniques. The class fee covers the use of tools as well as firing for eight 1.5" x 1.5" cabochons or pendants. A materials fee of $10 is payable to the teacher on the first day of class. This class meets three times.
