Q: Why is the Statue of Liberty green?
A: Patina!
A patina is the surface film of color that can sometimes
be seen on metal, be it the beautiful verdigris of Lady
Liberty or the deep red rust on an old Chevy. Though
a patina is usually associated with age and weathering,
interesting colors can be achieved relatively quickly
using the right chemicals. In this class you will learn
how to use store-bought patina preparations including
Liver of Sulfar. All materials included. No metalsmithing
experience necessary. |

In this class beginning students will learn the basics
of glass fusing, cutting and grinding glass pieces,
design techniques, kiln operation and firing procedures,
and how to shop for equipment and material and set up
your studio. Returning students can explore and refine
their skills as they experiment with new techniques.
The class fee covers the use of tools as well as firing
for eight 1.5" x 1.5" cabochons or pendants.
A materials fee of $10 is payable to the teacher on
the first day of class. This class meets three times. |
